Training program: Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA)


1)    Introduction to Linux and Open Source Ecosystem. Installing Linux

·         What is Linux? A brief history and evolution

·         Differences: Linux vs. Unix vs. Windows

·         Overview of Linux distributions (Debian, Red Hat, Arch, SUSE, etc.)

·         What is Open Source?

·         Benefits of Linux: Security, Stability, Performance, Cost-effectiveness

·         Where Linux is used: Cloud, Embedded Systems, Supercomputing, Servers

·         Linux history commands (ls, cd, cp ,mv, history)

 

2)    Hands on Shell

·         Shell basics (Bash, Csh, Tcsh.etc), Internal-external commands (whereis, which, type)

·         Basic commands for file and directory operations (ls, cd, pwd, mkdir, rm, etc.) Alias, unalias

·         Managing directories: create, rename, move, and delete

·         Absolute vs. relative paths. $PATH

·         Environment variables, export, env. set-unset

·         Command chaining and piping (||, ;, &&)

·         /etc/environment, /etc/bashrc, .bashrc, bash_profile (Set different Jdk versions).

 

3)    File structure in Linux

·         Inode, disk usage commands

·         File search tools: find, locate, which, whereis, type.tree

·         Soft (symbolic) link, hard link

·         Compression tools: gzip, bzip2, xz, zip, 7z

·         Extracting archives using unzip, tar, xz

·         Tomcat install-Multiple versions. CATALINA_HOME, JAVA_HOME

 

 

 

4)    Text File Viewing and Editing Tools, Redirections

·         Viewing files with cat, less, more, tail, head

·         Wildcards and globbing (*, ?)

·         Shell redirection and pipes (>, >>, <, 2>, &>)

·         Using watch, tac, grep, wc and nl

·         Cut, sed, awk, /dev/null

·         Show running processes, ps -aux

·         Text editors: vi, vim, nano

·         Creating and editing configuration files effectively

 

 

5)    User and Group Management

·         Creating, modifying, deleting users and groups (useradd, passwd, groupadd, etc.)

·         Managing user passwords and password policies, sudoers file. Lock, unlock user

·         Files: /etc/passwd, /etc/shadow, /etc/group, /etc/gshadow

·         Default user settings: /etc/login.defs, /etc/default/useradd, /etc/skel/

·         Switching users and executing as others (su, sudo)

6)    Basic User Permissions on files and folders

·         User and Group ownership

·         Change owner, group owner and other user permissions.

·         Usermod, chmod, chgrp

·         Show group’s users

·         File and directory permissions: read, write, execute (rwx). Umask value

7)    Advanced file permissions and Access Control:

·         Special permissions: SUID, SGID, Sticky Bit

·         ll /etc/shadow, /usr/bin/passwd, chmod +rX

·         Understanding and using Access Control Lists (ACLs), setfacl, getfacl. Backup getfacl access with getfacl /opt/file.txt > backup.txt.

·         File attributes with chattr and lsattr
